HYALUGEL is a (class IIa medical device) medical product containing high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid (in the form of sodium hyaluronate), obtained by a biotechnological process guaranteeing a high level of purity.
Its formula is specially designed to resemble the physiological Hyaluronic Acid present in normal gingival mucosa.
Hyaluronic Acid is a 'natural' substance, a physiological constituent of connective tissue (particularly in the gingival mucosa) where it has an anti-edematous and reparative action on tissues, resulting from its macro-aggregating effect.
This explains its anti-inflammatory properties.
Under normal conditions, high molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid is selectively and specifically distributed, and is particularly concentrated in the superficial layers of the gingival epithelium, where it contributes to the barrier function and tensile strength of the alveolar-dental ligament.
In periodontal diseases (inflammatory conditions, gingival pockets, wounds), tissue requirements increase considerably (up to around 200% compared with baseline values), demonstrating its specific role in regulating cell renewal and optimising local regeneration capacity.
The Hyaluronic Acid deficiency that occurs in these conditions prevents tissues from :
- re-establish water balance (leading to increased oedema and Pains),
- activate the migration of fibrocytes responsible for tissue repair (healing is therefore delayed).
As a result, such a deficit is itself responsible for the persistence of the inflammatory state.
Studies on L'Homme show a similarity in the availability of exogenous and endogenous Hyaluronic Acids, which helps to break this cycle.
HYALUGEL, through maximum adhesion, enables Hyaluronic Acid (which would otherwise be eliminated by permanent salivary drainage) to be maintained in situ.
HYALUGEL has no adverse effects and can be used by children (from 30 months for the spray and gel forms and from 6 years for the mouthwash form), pregnant women and the elderly. Thanks to the properties of xylitol, a natural sweetener which is non-cariogenic and does not induce significant variations in blood sugar levels, the product is also suitable for diabetics. It has no drug interactions, so it can also be used safely during specific therapies, particularly antibiotics.
Indications: inflammatory conditions (gingivitis, bleeding, gingival recession, gingival pockets) or other traumatic conditions (in particular mouth ulcers, small wounds, or due to the wearing of removable prostheses, orthodontic appliances, cleaning, abrasion, dental extractions, post-surgical sequelae), conditions where the oral mucosa requires a concentration of Hyaluronic Acid.
