Chlorophyll comes from the Greek khloros = green and phullon = leaf. It is the green pigment in leaves.
It is at the origin of photosynthesis by transforming solar energy into chemical energy. Photosynthesis enables plants to produce sugar from CO2 and water.
The structure and role of chlorophyll can be compared to the haemoglobin found in human blood. In fact, these two pigments have the same function as oxygen carriers within the plant and the body. It is porphyrin that gives chlorophyll its role in cellular respiration. The structure of chlorophyll and haemoglobin are similar. Haemoglobin has an iron core, whereas the chlorophyll core is Magnesium.
The structural and functional similarity of these two elements explains why chlorophyll is so easily absorbed by the blood.
CHLOROPHYLL: AN ELEMENT WITH MULTIPLE PROPERTIES
Chlorophyll can be used internally.
For example, it helps to :
combat bad breath and digestive problems
cleanse the body of certain toxic products
nourish the intestinal flora and improve digestion
