Clement-Thekan Strantel dewormer for cats is a veterinary medicine indicated for treating mixed infestations affecting a cat’s gastrointestinal tract. Its indication covers two main categories of internal parasites.
Treatment of intestinal parasites
This dewormer is intended to treat infestations involving gastrointestinal nematodes and cestodes. Mixed infestations caused by gastrointestinal nematodes and cestodes are therefore the specified use for Strantel. The indication includes the nematodes Toxocara cati and Toxascaris leonina, two species named in the product information. It also covers several cestodes: Dipylidium caninum, Taenia taeniaeformis and Echinococcus multilocularis. How to use it
For oral use.
To ensure the correct dosage, determine the cat’s bodyweight as accurately as possible.
Dosage:
The recommended dose is 20 mg of pyrantel per kg bodyweight (equivalent to 57.5 mg of pyrantel embonate per kg bodyweight) and 5 mg of praziquantel per kg bodyweight as a single dose. This corresponds to 1 tablet per 4 kg bodyweight.

Give the tablet directly to the cat or, if necessary, hide it in food.
In cases of roundworm infestation, particularly in kittens, the parasites may not be completely eliminated, and a risk of transmission to humans may persist. In this case, repeat treatments should be given with a suitable product at 14-day intervals, continuing until 2–3 weeks after weaning. If signs persist or appear, consult a vet.

Do not use in kittens under 6 weeks of age. Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the excipients.
Special warnings for each target species
Fleas serve as intermediate hosts for a common type of tapeworm, Dipylidium caninum.
Tapeworm infestation will almost certainly recur unless control of intermediate hosts, such as fleas and mice, is undertaken.
If there is a risk of reinfestation, a veterinarian should be consulted regarding the need for and frequency of repeated administration in cats. The local epidemiological situation and the cats' living conditions should be taken into consideration. It is also important to eliminate possible sources of reinfestation, such as fleas and mice.
Parasite resistance to any class of anthelmintic may develop following frequent or repeated use of an anthelmintic from that class.

Special precautions for safe use in the target species
As the tablets are flavoured, they should be stored in a safe place out of the animals' reach. Animals in poor condition or heavily infested, which may show symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, parasites in the faeces or vomit, or a poor coat condition, should be examined by a veterinarian before the veterinary medicinal product is administered. In severely debilitated or heavily infested cats, use should only take place after the benefit-risk assessment has been carried out by the responsible veterinarian.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the medicinal product
As a hygiene precaution, people administering the tablets directly to the cat or adding them to its food should wash their hands after administration.
In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the doctor.

Other precautions
Echinococcosis poses a danger to humans. Echinococcosis is a notifiable disease to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). Specific guidance on treatment and monitoring, as well as the protection of people, should be obtained from the relevant competent authority.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
Do not use simultaneously with compounds from the piperazine family.
