Henri-Edmond Canonne, an apothecary from Lille with a passion for microbiology, had been obsessed with Hygiene and asepsis ever since his wife died of typhoid fever.
A visionary pharmacist and entrepreneur, he created a small ball of soft paste rich in gum arabic. The Valda pastille was born.

Personified by the "Good Doctor Valda", the Valda lozenge gradually became famous: automatons, enamelled plaques and leaflets recounted the travels of this doctor who travelled the world.
The little round box survived wars and generations, to the point of becoming an everyday expression.
