Swallow
As it cannot be diluted in water (it is not "hydrodispersible"), we don't have to mix it directly in water or tea, instead we mix it in honey, vegetable oil or sugar or on a Puressentiel neutral tablet. We can also mix it in with a meal, why not? Certain foodstuffs go rather well with it, such as basil or lavender.
Breath
We can take advantages of their beneficial properties by inhaling it dry (on a tissue) or damp (in a bowl of warm water). Or even place a few drops into a diffuser or a glass or porcelain bowl placed near a heat source. This will cleanse the air (office, room) or create a sweet and nicely fragranced atmosphere. Avoid using earthenware bowls or devices as if we put them near to heat sources, they will denature the essential oils and make them less active.
On skin
The essential oils will quickly traverse the skin barrier and be incorporated into the blood flow and from there the body part which is to be healed. This is why we shouldn't be surprised to hear about massage remedies which advise you to massage a part of your body which is far away from the part of the body to be treated. This is why applying eucalyptus to the foot arch will give you a pleasingly scented breath in only a few minutes after application.
In a bath
Foot bath, hand bath, bottom bath, small washes, another excellent way to take advantage of essential oils. They act:
1) Via skin penetration onto the entire body.
2) Via diffusion into the atmosphere of the bathroom, penetrating the airways. With a moment of deep relaxation. A real "plus" when not feeling well! Always dilute essential oils in a milk or neutral base (recommended as it is non-greasy) before diluting them in the bath water for a Puressentiel bath (the water must never be too warm, max. 35 to 37°C) if not they will stay on the water's surface and they risk burning skin.
